If your eyes aren't popping out of your head right now, then they might be if you knew how insane it was at Alcatraz. If there's one reason to not break the law, that would certainly be it. And, you know, the whole being a good person thing too.

From the Shreveport Times:
Trump is now directing the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security to open and enlarge the aging facility to house detained immigrants, USA Today reported.

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said that the agency "will comply with all Presidential Orders," however, they did not elaborate on the practicality and feasibility of reopening Alcatraz. Nor did the agency spokesperson provide answers regarding the agency's future role in reforming the prison, since the National Park Service is in control of the island, CBS News reported.

Oh come on, how bad could it really be? Here's what the 93-year-old former Alcatraz prisoner said, from Unilad:
Charlie Hopkins was sent to Alcatraz in 1955. He'd been sentenced to 17 years for kidnapping and robbery and sent to a jail in Jacksonville, Florida in 1952, however, after trouble at other prisons, he was shipped off to the 22-acre island instead.

The now-93-year-old has since opened up about his experiences in the prison, reflecting it was the sound - or lack of it - which haunts him the most.

Hopkins explained there wasn't any radio at the time and there were few books in the prison.

He told the BBC that the only sound to be heard was when ships passed and let out a whistle.

Hopkins continued: "That's a lonely sound. It reminds you of Hank Williams singing that song, 'I'm so lonesome I could cry.'"
