Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill that allows all students residing in Illinois, regardless of immigration status, to be eligible for state-funded financial aid for college. The bill was sponsored by State Senators Celina Villanueva and Javier L. Cervantes, both Democrats.The law ensures that undocumented students have access to the same educational opportunities as their peers. Villanueva emphasized that “no student is left behind because of where they were born.” The legislation aims to remove barriers and confusion that many students face due to their immigration background.
