Looks like the joke’s on the joker this time as Nikola Jokić has officially LOST the NBA Finals MVP trophy and isn’t really sure where it is. He said he left it in a trainer’s room and now it’s not there, but Jokić hopes the trophy gets to his house somehow. Ain’t that something! He wins MVP after leading the Denver Nuggets to win their first NBA championship, then loses the MVP trophy right after the game. What a moment for Jokić, that’s for sure.
Bleacher Report had the scoop on Jokić’s conversation about the trophy and it was very down to Earth:
“I really don’t know. I left in [equipment manager Sparky Gonzales’] room and it’s not there anymore. So I don’t know. But hopefully it can arrive in my house.”
Just how good was Jokić in the playoffs? Well, the Denver Nuggets took down Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in just 5 games. Jokić, a two-time league MVP, played pretty well you might say, getting himself about 30.2 points per game, 14 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in that series alone. Not bad, right?
The big mystery about Jokić’s MVP trophy is 1) who took it, 2) where did they put it, and 3) why? Don’t forget, Jokić threw Jamal Murray in the pool after they sealed the championship in game 5, so there may be a little bit of a prank situation going on here.
But, what if someone stole it and is trying to sell it online? Hmmm… I bet no one would notice that. How do you even describe Jokić’s missing MVP trophy without getting caught? What would the online description say?
Meanwhile, Jokic’s post-game interview was exactly what you’d expect from him.
