NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s son, Adam, was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail for stabbing his neighbor in Southern Carolina with a hunting knife because of an argument about a trash can. As silly as it sounds, Adam Abdul-Jabbar allegedly stabbed his 60-year-old neighbor in the back of the head several times on June 9 of last year after the man confronted him about failing to take in trash cans for Abdul-Jabbar’s elderly roommate, prosecutors said.
The 60-year-old almost died of blood loss after collapsing outside of the emergency room, suffering a fractured skull. District Attorney Todd Spitzer said that the slap on the wrist is an absolute miscarriage of justice adding: “This man nearly bled to death in front of the emergency room doors after being stabbed so violently over and over that his skull was fractured.”
“We believe the complete disregard for human life over a dispute over trash cans is so egregious it warranted prison time,” Spitzer said in a statement after the sentencing.
Watch the news clip on it:
Prosecutors had sought a seven-year jail sentence and objected to the plea offer as Adam Abdul-Jabbar accepted a plea deal from an Orange County judge after pleading guilty to three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a dagger, with sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Probation officials will decide on Adam’s future, whether he will be permitted home confinement as the sentence was stayed until January 7 so that Abdul-Jabbar can apply for the home confinement instead of incarceration, the DA’s office said.
The 60-year-old neighbor had a horror and a miracle experience on the same day, as he managed to stay alive after being stabbed in the back of the head by a bad neighbor.
