Julianna Peña totally torched Amanda Nunes in several ways. It was in person and on social media, where tons of sports drama goes to thrive. For starters, there was the in-person bashing and not the kind that happens in an octagon. It was verbal from across the room and it was caught on video and published on Twitter.
Nina-Marie Daniele posted a video showing Julianna Peña trashing Amanda Nunes while she announced her retirement from MMA fighting and compared herself to Anderson Silva. Peña was NOT having it at all, yelling for Nunes to shut up, booing, and saying loudly “do not compare yourself to Anderson Silva.”
But Nina-Marie had a really good question to go with her video. She asked: “Do you guys think Amanda owed her the trilogy fight? What do you guys think?” If you had to ask me, then I’d say yes. If two fighters slop it up twice and they split the card, then they owe it to themselves and fans to battle one more time to see who comes out on top.
Peña and Nunes were supposed to fight as the main event at UFC 289, but Peña pulled out because she broke some ribs during training. Don’t forget, Peña is the woman who choked out Nunes and ended her six-year undefeated streak. Nunes was choked out by Peña back in 2021 at UFC 269.
Even better is the drama that unfolded on Twitter when Julianna Peña said the following on Twitter, directed right to Amanda Nunes but without saying her name:
I scared you so bad into retirement. Personally, Congratulations. Professionally, wtf was that? #UFC289
