The Philadelphia Eagles suffered an embarrassing loss at home to the Arizona Cardinals and to make the loss even worse, star wide receiver DeVonta Smith may have suffered a mild ankle sprain. He was seen walking in a boot and using crutches following the game.
Ian Rapoport said on X: “#Eagles WR DeVonta Smith, who was spotted leaving yesterday’s game in a walking boot, is believed to be dealing with a mild ankle sprain, sources say. He’ll have more tests today, but not considered a major injury.”
The injury took place while DeVonta Smith was blocking on a screen play designed for running back Kenneth Gainwell, a play many fans criticized Offensive Coordinator Brian Johnson for – saying Smith should never be in the mix as a lead blocker in any fashion, due to his size. DeVonta Smith is as tough as they come, but a bigger body would likely be more effective in blocking during the bubble screen.
The Eagles have been horrible for the last month or so, barely scraping by when they win, or losing at home to bad teams like the Arizona Cardinals. Star wide receiver AJ Brown hasn’t said much lately and it’s clear he’s frustrated after going on an amazing stretch where he performed at the highest levels, but now it seems like the Eagles can’t get much going on offense
As usual, returning to the Super Bowl is a tough stretch for every team in NFL history. The Eagles sit at 11-5 and fans are upset with their recent performances. Can Coach Nick Sirianni right the ship, or is it slowly sinking? Omar Ruiz spotted DeVonta Smith on crutches and the walking boot after the Eagles lost to the Cardinals.
