Sixers all-star center Joel Embiid expected to miss several games

CalebNovember 9, 2021Updated:January 19, 2024

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski learned that Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid tested positive for COVID-19.

Embiid will not play against the New York Knicks on Monday and will rest for up to, or at least, ten days, according to the NBA’s health and safety standards. Embiid could miss at least five games and could return as soon as late next week, while the 76ers are on a six-game road trip, primarily on the West Coast.

Even before entering the procedures, Embiid was scheduled to rest during Monday night’s game against the Knicks.

With Embiid out, veteran center Andre Drummond, who joined the Sixers as a free agent this summer, will go into the starting lineup.

Harris also entered the NBA’s safety and health protocols about a week ago.

The 76ers ended up winning the game, as well as games against the Chicago Bulls (twice) and the Detroit Pistons later in the week, despite the absence of Harris and Embiid.

Philadelphia had risen to the top of the Eastern Conference standings before the game against New York.
