Jokic crowned NBA Finals MVP and makes history as Nuggets take down Heat

Frank BojaziJune 13, 2023Updated:January 19, 2024

The Denver Nuggets have won their first NBA championship taking down the Miami Heat in a 4-1 fashion with Nikola Jokic being crowned the Finals MVP and setting history at the same time. Jokic is the first player in NBA history to lead the playoffs in total points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190), setting the bar high for the next player who thinks they could accomplish that.

Jokic dropped 28 points, 16 rebounds, and just 4 assists in the series ending victory against Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat. Butler had 21 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Jokic who had help from Michael Porter Jr’s 16 points and Jamal Murray’s 14 points.

Jokic also became the first center to win a Finals MVP award since the big funny guy Shaquille O’Neal did it back in 2002. It’s been THAT long since a dominant big man was a Finals MVP, how about that! Jokic set another milestone in becoming the first second round draft pick to win a Finals MVP since Dennis Johnson did it back in 1979, 40+ years ago. So I guess this Jokic guy is kind of a big deal, right?

Jokic’s post-game interview says a lot about his character too. He’s just an all-around good guy who wants to win for his teammates, not just himself. That’s something Joel Embiid can’t seem to figure out and it’s why he probably won’t ever win a championship. Sorry Philly Sixers fans, but there’s no DOG mentality in Embiid and he’s like a giant baby when it comes to maturity and being there for teammates. He seems like he’s all about himself and that only goes so far, you know, like the second round of the playoffs and getting bounced out each season. Ohhhh snap.

Watch and enjoy Nikola Jokic’s postg-ame interview.
