Cowboys deny Prescott said no to $175 million contract, claim it wasn’t offered

Frank BojaziMay 26, 2020Updated:January 19, 2024

There’s two different reports on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys contract problems. One report said Prescott turned down $175 million for five years, as shown in the tweet below, as suggested by Chris Simms (who a lot of people said cannot be trusted due to shady reports and lack of sources).

Dak Prescott turned down a 5-year, $175 million contract offer from the #Cowboys according to @CSimmsQB

It would've made him the highest paid QB in history.

Prescott instead is seeking “north of $45M” in the final season of his new deal, reportedly. pic.twitter.com/IBYCVaxVk7

Another report, coming in on Yahoo Sports and also by Ian Rapoport, claims the deal wasn’t even offered.

According to the team side and Dak Prescott’s agent, the report (??) from @CSimmsQB is definitely not true. The two sides have never discussed such scenarios or anything like it. Dak wants a shorter deal, the #Cowboys want a longer one. July 15 is the deadline. https://t.co/yUgxcz5qcq

Now that the truth is out there, the contract isn’t. Prescott, at best, is a slightly better than average quarterback, but he’s not on the level of Patrick Mahomes or in the “excellent” category – not even close.

Dak Prescott without a top tier running back, wide receiver, and and defense would probably be nothing more than a younger Andy Dalton anyway.

Think about it – Prescott was surrounded by Ezekiel Elliot, Amari Cooper, that entire defense, and even Jason Witten with all 16 of his years of experience. How did the Cowboys not do better with this? Perhaps because the game manager didn’t manage very well. They were 8-8 and missed the playoffs with Dak Prescott.

Now that Prescott and the Cowboys struggle to sign a deal, and the deadline being on July 15, some fans are already calling for newly signed former Bengal, Andy Dalton to take over.

Cowboys fans are livid that Dak Prescott has not signed a contract yet. He’s an 8-8 quarterback and that’s the type of salary he should have. Except, that type of contract usually doesn’t take this long to sign.

So what’s the hold up?

Here’s a few fans calling for Dalton to start.

Dude isn’t even a top 5 QB no way i would pay him this kind of money.

I’ve gone from sort of sympathetic about Dak Prescott being underpaid — to — bail on him & let him hit the market, and roll w Andy Dalton, after what I’m reading today. @FS1

Andy Dalton, that helped Bengals get #1 overall draft pick. https://t.co/vJ59emtrWY

Dak think he’s Russell Wilson or something?!

Just go with Andy Dalton lol https://t.co/afxgz7sY7j

So yeah, we don’t even know if there will be a season and people are already tired of the Dak Prescott contract drama.
