Alabama puts ‘Participation Trophy’ in cafeteria to motivate players after title loss

Frank BojaziMay 1, 2024

Alabama is well-known for having the most College Football Playoff victories, but in 2022, their luck had changed. Although the team isn’t used to losing national championship titles, there are still tactics that players use to keep themselves motivated when things get rough. According to offensive tackle Emil Ekiyor Jr., the Crimson Tide has a “participation trophy” from the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game on display in the team cafeteria to motivate the players this season.

WATCH them talk about it on video:

In the College Football Playoff’s eight-year history, Alabama has made the field eight times and reached the title game six times. The 2022 Crimson Tide went 12-1 during the regular season, including a 41-24 win over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. They earned the top seed in the playoffs and breezed to a 27-6 victory over Cincinnati in the semifinals.

In the second semifinal, Georgia defeated Michigan 34-11 to ensure a rematch of the SEC Championship Game for the championship. Additionally, it was a rematch of the national championship game of the 2018 College Football Playoff, which Alabama won 26-23 in overtime. With a 33-18 victory against their conference rival, the Bulldogs took revenge and won their first national championship since 1980.

The team led by Nick Saban suffered its biggest defeat by 15 points since being crushed 44-16 by Clemson in the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. Alabama’s team is widely regarded as the most talented in college football. Saban and his team are broadly regarded as the best in the United States. This season, many people predicted that the team would win the national championship.

The Crimson Tide had to settle for the second-place participation trophy instead of the real one. Let us all hope that it will serve as motivation for them to succeed in upcoming championships, said Bleacher Report. The University of Alabama’s football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, represents the school in American football. Nick Saban, who has led the team to six national titles during his successful career, is the head coach. The team is one of the most famous and prestigious football programs in NCAA history. Eighteen national championships have been won by the team since it began competing in 1892.
