It’s official: Odell Beckham Jr signs deal with Los Angeles Rams

MichelNovember 12, 2021Updated:January 19, 2024

Los Angeles Rams (7-2) signed free agent Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year contract. He became a free agent when he cleared waivers on Tuesday after being released by the Cleveland Browns. Beckham considered teams like Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks but the Los Angeles Rams announced on Thursday that the wide receiver decided to agree on a contract with them, according to ESPN.

He will be joining a high-powered offense led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and adds to a depth chart at the position that already includes Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson.

“It’s an opportunity for us as a team,” Stafford said. “It’s an opportunity for him to come in here and prove himself to us. What our room is about in the receiver room is pretty special. I know he’ll fit right in and continue to get better and hopefully help us as a team.”

As DeSean Jackson was released after the trade deadline last week and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders this week, Beckham will be replacing him at the wide receiver position for the Los Angeles Rams.

They also traded for star pass-rusher Von Miller before the deadline last week, who welcomed their second high-profile player add this month on his Instagram story by posting: “Let’s chase this ring family!!!!”

The Rams lead the NFL in total offense this season with Stafford leading the NFL with 2,771 passing yards, and Kupp who is actually their first receiver, who leads the NFL in receptions (74), receiving yards (1,019) and touchdown receptions (10).

OBJ asked the Cleveland Browns to be traded as he never developed an on-field connection with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Beckham’s father released an 11 minutes video on social media hours before the trade deadline of plays in which Baker Mayfield didn’t pass him the ball.

There are worries of how exactly will Beckham fit in this team, as almost every play runs through Cooper Kupp, but the LA Rams were very successful at managing the egos and needs of their elite players, with McVay assuaging almost all public disenchantment with the organization. So we are sure they will be able to manage OBJ’s role in this team as well.
